Let's get this right out of the way. The Mudmen are a rock band with
bagpipes. That's right, a rock band with bagpipes. And drums. And guitars.
And a bass. And a singer. This is not novelty, it's reality.
On their self titled 2001 debut Mudmen made quite an impression on the
Canadian music scene. Winning over rockers, punks, metalheads and Celtic
warriors from coast to coast by touring relentlessly on the strength of
their single and video "Saturday". Other songs from the album
such as "Drink & fight", "5 O'clock" and "In
my head" soon solidified the bands reputation both on air and on
stage.
Bagpipes brothers Rob and Sandy Campbell formed the Mudmen in 2000 with
singer Zoy Nicholes, guitarist Lonny Knapp, drummer Ryan McCaffrey and
bassist Tommy Skiltron. The Campbell brothers grew up in a small town
outside of Sarnia, Ontario with a very Scottish mother who wanted her
boys to train on a traditional instrument. Every weekend in the summer
they performed at the Highland Games and traveled Scotland five times
to compete in the world bagpipe championships. By
the late nineties the brothers married their love of bagpipes with their
love of rock and Mudmen were born.
Their debut album is now released all over Europe through TB Records (Dogbreath
in Scandinavia). Roadrunner Records has licensed the album for Australia
and it was originally released in North America by EMI.
