| "The best band in Canada" - Danko Jones "Fucking amazing" - Andrew W.K. "...damned if the band didn't blow minds... We may all be Illuminati converts before the year is over" - Now Magazine "(they) belt 'em out in blaring 70's boogie rock fashion." - ChartAttack.com THE ILLUMINATI are not a typical modern band. There is no gimmick. There is no schtick. There is only the consuming roar of elegantly crafted rock music. Taking their name from the shadowy secret society purported to control the world, THE ILLUMINATI are the majority share of the now-defunct garage metal band TCHORT. Originally formed in 1992, Tchort garnered a cult following through playing with noted artists such as KYUSS, ENTOMBED, KING DIAMOND and many others. But after 10 years and 8 independent releases, musical differences forced the group to part ways in August of 2002. Frustrated by Tchorts reliance on stage theatrics for attention, guitarist Les Godfrey and bassist Nick Sewell left in search of a new venue for their ideas. The product of that split is THE ILLUMINATI. Wasting no time, September found the new band supporting DANKO JONES on a blitz of dates in Southern Ontario with the assistance of former Tchort drummer Michael Borges. They immediately recorded what Now Magazine called a "blistering" 6 song EP with noted producer and former CHANGE OF HEART frontman Ian Blurton, but pressed only a handful of copies to sell off the stage. Only now has this recording become commercially available. The new year found THE ILLUMINATI poised for conquest with the addition of veteran basher Jim Gering on drums. A long time friend and colleague, Jim was the perfect compliment to THE ILLUMINATI brand of hard rock. Having shared a stage with the likes of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and CLUTCH drumming for feline rockers Nice Cat, Jim's manic stomp completed the band's look and sound. The final confirmation of Jim's induction would come with a sinister twist - the band realized that all three members were left handed! In an even stranger twist, they realized that they played their instruments 'right handed' - lending an unexpected significance to THE ILLUMINATI 'eye in the pyramid of hands' logo which had been in use since the band's first show. The stars are in alignment... Melodic, exploratory and at once fast and mean, THE ILLUMINATI offer a refreshing return to musical virtuosity - conjuring wild spectres rock n rolls greatest legacies. Sneaky details like moments of metal-blues fusion and impeccably written noodley jazz codas recall a time before todays genre-bound constraints. It is time to expect more from music. It is time to return to a sense of wonder. It is time for THE ILLUMINATI. Line-up Les Godfrey - Guitar Nick Sewell- Bass Jim Gerin - Drums |
